Calling all you peak-season tomato lovers!
All you honey connoisseurs, gourmet jam devourers, corn-on-the-cob eaters, canvas tote sporters, fingerling potato pickers, and local food supporters everywhere!
I am happy to announce the sign-up for The Transplanted Baker's 3rd Annual Farmer's Market Exchange!
After a 10 person sign-up in the inaugural year, and an 18 person sign-up last year, would it be presumptuous to assume that 30, maybe 40 of you are dying to partake in this year's exchange?
The 2010 exchange attracted people from Alaska, Brazil, Vermont, Colorado, Sartell, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Oregon, Los Angeles, London, Minneapolis, and humble Førde, Norway. Not too shabby for the second year. The exchange has become the kind of event that allows a person to not only support their local farmer, but to share the bounty of their hometown with someone on the other side of the country (or even ocean!) It’s a good way to say, “Hey, I live somewhere that produces really good food from really good ingredients, here’s a taste” And it’s always nice to get a box with your name on it in the mail. Especially if that box is filled with surprise market goodies.
Of course, the whole charm of summertime is that you get a chance to slow down, drink a beer outside, and forget about the stresses of the other 9 months of the year. With that being said, I’ll give you til the end of the month to sign up for this exchange and an additional month (prime market season!) to collect the market goods and ship them out to your exchange buddy. To ensure that you have ample beer (or root beer)-drinking time, we’ll say that Thursday, June 30th will be the last day to sign up and Monday, August 1st will be the last day to ship.
To sign-up, send me an e-mail with your name and address to: siri@bentare.no . Be sure to specify whether or not you are willing to ship overseas. I’ll match up the exchange buddies during the first week of July. Let the exchanging begin!
-SiRi
**While sending produce from your hometown is a great idea if it's been shipped within your country of residence (otherwise it's against the law!), there are plenty of other great finds at many farmer's markets that are less perishable, and perhaps easier to ship. Just a few ideas: dried herbs, preserves, chocolates and other confects, baked goods, nuts and seeds, syrups, market tote bags and coffee.

Siri, you are full of fantastic ides! I would take part if I had a job (and money!) and food was not so damn expensive here!

Yeah!! Thanks for hosting it again this year.
The folks at my local farmer's market have been asking me about the exchange this year, and have even given me a few items to include. As a result, I have a good start for 2 exchange partners. I'd love to have 1 international and 1 domestic exchangee if there are enough participants.

This sounds good! I'll be up for this. Though I'd be happy to settle for your scrumptuous choc chip cookies!
