Red Octopi on a Monday in March

Ok, so they're not really octopi (octopussies?). They're actually dried rose hips (called nype in Norway) and they grow like mad in every little old lady's garden in Førde. They blossom and look really gorgeous in the late summer/early fall, which is when you're supposed to pick them and turn them into tea, jam, and even soup. 

Also: One kilo bags of frozen lutefisk is on sale this week- somehow I doubt there will be many takers.

And just a little glimpse at charming Norwegian road signs. The one above reads, "Here are many children. Let's keep all of them". Couldn't be more honest and to-the-point...

Jon- No, it's very much NOT lutefisk season, which is probably why they have it on sale. Thank God there's a whole 'nother 8 months before lutefisk season strikes again!

I love that photo of the red house with the white curtains. So Norwegian! I have hinted strongly to my hubby that I would like to paint (actually I want HIM to paint) our cabin Norwegian red like the henhouse. He balks because he thinks that will cause more upkeep for him of the logs. We'll see!
